This position will be responsible for providing production safety guidance to the Department of Film and Television at Boston University to faculty, staff and students working on production related entities producing theatrical motion picture, television and other content on local productions. This person will work closely with the Risk Management Office of the University, production personnel, Regulatory Agencies and various other city and state departments to reinforce safety standards in all our productions. This position may also be asked to work on general safety and environmental matters. Students in the Department of Film and Television produce and shoot well over 300 film projects ranging from 3-20 minutes each year. The Production Safety Manager will train students in production safety procedures, vet all projects for potential safety issues and oversee student productions in-regards to safety. 7 years safety experience required, preferably 5 years in the entertainment industry working with productions, television or features, including action shows, reality television, single and multi-camera strongly preferred.
Required Skills
Bachelors degree with 5-8 years of related experience.
- Candidates with knowledge of critical aspects of film making including camera positioning, framing, visual effects, POV, FX equipment and routine stunt parameters and stunt performer protection
- Flexibility and problem-solving skills
- Strong skills in researching, understanding and communicating regulatory compliance requirements in key filming regions
- Ability to create safety materials for internal safety department and external production crew
- Ability to lead internal projects and teams
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, potentially for extended periods
- Strong technical writing skills are required for this position as this person will be interacting with Legal teams and Regulatory agencies
