The University of Oklahoma (OU) invites nominations and applications for a dynamic and innovative Dean of the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences (DFCAS) who would be proud to serve its public mission and eager to continue its ascent up the ranks of excellence. The University of Oklahoma is a thriving institution, one of the nation's premier, comprehensive, public R1 research universities. OU seeks a leader for the DFCAS with a vision that prioritizes community, educational rigor, traditional and applied scholarship, teaching, a global presence, and public education. The Dean's leadership will not only shape the future of the College but also significantly impact its reputation and standing in the academic community.
The Dean, as the college's chief academic and administrative officer, is a key player in a collaborative team. Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Dean provides intellectual and administrative leadership, guiding the College in its commitment to innovative, relevant education for current and future generations of students. The Dean's responsibilities include consulting with and empowering faculty to revise and develop curricula; developing and executing college strategy; maintaining high standards of teaching, research and creative activity, and service; administering the College's budget; recruiting faculty; taking a leading role in other faculty personnel matters, including tenure, promotion, and renewal; and advocating for the College at the University and national level. The Dean will work collaboratively with the OU administration, deans of other colleges, faculty, and staff to achieve the DFCAS and University goals. The Dean is also responsible for developing, engaging, and cultivating alums and other potential donors and facilitating outreach at the state and national levels.
The University is seeking a Dean who is visionary, politically astute, and committed to public service, access, and excellence. The ideal candidate must be able to inspire the multiple constituencies of the DFCAS and will also possess the following qualities and characteristics:
- Earned terminal degree and a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for a tenured appointment at the level of full professor in a College department
- Substantial record of administrative leadership in a large research university or comparable organization at the level of:
- Dean
- Associate dean
- Department head or chair
- Commitment to scholarly excellence, creativity, and research
- Record of success in the fiscal and operational management of a complex program
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Success in fundraising to support strategic priorities of the College
- Understanding of current trends in humanities, social sciences, and sciences
- Demonstrated dedication to student success, shared governance, faculty excellence, and staff development
