Position Summary Join an Office of Admissions team that is enthusiastic about promoting access to higher education by supporting prospective and incoming Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners. The Senior Admission Counselor - High School is a member of the recruitment team within the Office of Admission and contributes to the MSU Denver mission to provide a high-quality, accessible, enriching education that prepares students for successful careers, post-graduate education and lifelong learning in a multicultural, global, and technological society. Under the supervision of the Associate Director of High School Outreach and Recruitment, this position shares broad recruitment and enrollment responsibilities with other members of the Office of Admissions. This position is a key player in the recruitment and outreach efforts of the university and provides counseling to prospective students, applicants, and admitted students to assist the university in meeting enrollment goals.

The High School Outreach and College Access team is dedicated to implementing meaningful and equitable engagement opportunities for students from historically underserved backgrounds to learn about and begin identifying with a college education. The members of the High School Outreach and College Access team facilitate programming for underserved students and families, including Hispanic/Latinx, Black, Indigenous, and other students of color along with low income and first-generation students, who may not otherwise have considered college as an option. This program will plant seeds for motivating students toward college starting in the 9th grade and extending through enrollment at MSU Denver.

Duties/Responsibilities

45% - Recruitment and Outreach Represent MSU Denver at off-campus recruitment opportunities including college fairs, workshops, and community events in a high-volume recruitment zone.

  • Maintain a regular visitation schedule for recruitment and advising purposes in a high-volume Colorado territory. Establish strong working relationships with high school counselors and college advising partners to successfully develop and execute postsecondary advising activities for prospective MSU Denver students.

  • Provide admissions counseling and academic planning advice to prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students via email, telephone, video conferencing, text, mail and direct in-office communication.

  • Facilitate virtual recruitment activities when needed including participation in virtual high school visits, college fairs, campus sponsored outreach events and other virtual offerings that may arise.

  • Assist with the execution of on-campus recruitment related activities such as campus visits, group tours, multi-institutional events, and open houses. This can entail presenting to large audiences and providing general event support.

  • Answer questions specific to the MSU Denver admission process, reading and reviewing admission applications and application materials, participating in admissions events, and conducting daily info sessions.

  • During summer, support the High School team with strategic recruitment planning activities for the upcoming academic year.

    20% - High School Outreach and College Access Team Leadership

  • Maintain relationships with MSU Denver student service programs and academic offices.

  • Provide mentorship and onboarding for new members of the High School Outreach and College Access Team Collaborate with Transfer team, Assistant Director of High School Outreach, and Communication team to create, edit, and update communications to prospective and admitted high school students using CRM.

  • Assist in strategic recruitment plan development for upcoming recruitment cycles.

  • Lead/coordinate professional development for the High School Outreach and College Access team as needed.

    15% - Additional Duties

  • Represent the Office of Admissions on internal and external committees and organizations related to the recruitment and admission of students.

  • Uphold and interpret the standards of ethical practice in university admissions to assist with broad recruitment activities.

  • Attend professional development conferences and trainings.

  • Lead/manage team meetings and initiatives when the Associate Director and Assistant Director are unavailable.

    15% - Leadership and Student Development Collaborate with the Assistant Director of College Access to identify outreach and engagement opportunities for High School Student Ambassadors

  • Develop professional development and coaching opportunities for Student Ambassadors

  • Recruit and onboard new High School Student Ambassadors

    5% - Application Review Serve on the application review committee which reads and evaluates completed application files and determines admissions decisions.

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

  • Experience working or volunteering with diverse, underrepresented populations.

  • Experience giving and creating engaging presentations to large groups (often 50 people or more).

  • Experience working or volunteering with high school aged youth in an academic or college preparatory capacity

  • Experience using a Student Information System database and/or Customer Relationship Management system

  • Minimum 1 year experience working in admissions at MSU Denver

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, counseling, social work, human services, or related field

  • 3 years of experience in college admission, outreach and recruitment, and student leadership

  • Experience supporting underrepresented students including but not limited to students of color

  • Experience providing high quality customer service through face-to-face interactions with clients, customers, or students.

  • Experience using Slate

  • Bilingual in Spanish

    Salary for Announcement

    The minimum of the pay range for this position is $41,200.00. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 - $61,800. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $47,300.

    The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
