Dean, College of Education
Northern Illinois University (NIU), a student-centered, nationally recognized public research university located 65 miles west of Chicago, invites applications for the position of dean of the College of Education. NIU seeks an accomplished, visionary and collaborative academic leader to advance NIU's strong culture of teaching, research, service and innovation.
NIU offers the dean an incredible opportunity to implement bold and positive new initiatives, in partnership with the president; the provost; a collegial group of deans and vice presidents; and a strong leadership team in the College of Education. NIU has a stimulating university environment, supportive local community and an enthusiastic and engaged alumni base. Reporting to the provost, the dean is the intellectual and administrative leader of the college. The dean is the chief advocate for the mission and purpose of education, both internally and within the state of Illinois, helping define it in a manner that sets NIU apart from other institutions in the state and region. The dean leads the college in formulating and implementing a vision that aligns with the vision, mission and goals of the university.
The ideal candidate will have an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree; faculty credentials that demonstrate teaching experience and research, scholarship, and/or creative achievement consistent with appointment to the NIU faculty at the rank of tenured full professor; progressive administrative experience in higher education and demonstrated visionary leadership skills; experience with budget and financial management processes, strategic planning, policy formation, and personnel management.
